Stage Fright Blitz ebook

Almost all cases of stage fright can be made less severe by positive thinking.  Since many stage fright sufferers are panicked about getting on stage, doing their performance well, what the crowd will think, and many other things, a simple change of mind and attitude can work wonders.

Positive affirmations can lift your spirits and lessen the effects of stage fright, sometimes even allowing you to completely overcome it.

In order to get the most use out of a positive affirmation, you need to follow these simple guidelines.

  • Use an affirmation that has a personal meaning for you.
  • Choose an affirmation that you either believe or want to believe.
  • Word the affirmation in a positive way instead of a negative way.
  • Provide yourself reminders of the affirmation.
  • Keep the affirmation short enough that you can easily remember it word for word.
  • Repeat the affirmation often, especially when you feel stage fright starting to occur.

An affirmation needs to be something that will motivate and inspire you.  Often, these affirmations are filled with imagery and descriptive words that will evoke an emotional response.  Once you have selected your affirmation, repeat it over and over to yourself.  Even if you do not believe it at first, the more you repeat it, the more believable it will become for you.

Place the affirmation in strategic key locations around yourself so that when you are starting to feel stage fright set it, you will be reminded of your positive affirmation.  For example, many people choose to write it on the back of a business card in their wallet, tape it to a dressing room mirror, place it inside of their instrument case, or even have it on the podium while they are presenting their speech.

In order to inspire yourself, only use positive affirmations.  Do not use words like “not”, “won’t”, “can’t” in your affirmation.  Here is an example of two affirmations that essentially have the same meaning, but the effect will be drastically better by using the positive affirmation:

The crowd loves me. (positive)
The crowd won’t hate me. (negative)

Here is another example:
I am an amazingly talented performer.  (positive)
I can perform without shaking.  (negative)

To pick your positive affirmation, think about what strength or quality you want to remember or invoke in yourself.  Then, form it into a positive sentence.  If you’re having trouble developing one of your own, try one of the ones below.  You can either keep it as it is or modify it for your own personal situation.

I am a fierce performer.
I rock.
I sing like an angel.
I can do anything.
Watch out world, here I come!
They love me.
My deep, sexy voice will awe them.
I love my job!

Hopefully you were able to use these examples to develop a positive affirmation that will work for you.  And remember, the more you repeat it, the more you will believe it!
