Does the thought of performing in front of a group of people make your palms sweat and your knees shake?
If so, you might have stage fright – and you’re not alone. Many famous people, including actors, singers, and other public figures, have battled with stage fright at some point in their life.
To find out which celebrity is most like you, in terms of the type of stage fright they have, take the quiz below.
If nervous about performing on stage, would you:
- Hide behind a piece of sound equipment while performing your first song
- Imagine yourself as someone else when you’re performing, that way it’s not actually “you” the audience is watching
- Stop doing live performances for over 25 years because you were so nervous you would forget the lyrics to the songs
- Do your performance with so many nerves that afterwards you can’t even remember how well you did
To overcome your stage fright, would you:
- Accept stage fright as a normal part of life and expect and welcome it before every performance.
- Throw up before every performance
- Only perform in front of large, anonymous crowds, since performing in front of people you know makes you even more nervous
- Need one of your friends to talk you into even setting a foot on the stage
Answers:
Question 1:
- If you selected (A), then your celebrity stage fright persona is Rod Stewart, who spent the entire first song of a performance behind a large speaker cabinet in 1968.
- If you selected (B), then you share something in common with Beyonce Knowles, who imagines herself as her alter-persona Sasha during every performance.
- If you selected (C), then you and Barbara Streisand have something in common. She forgot the lyrics to several of her songs during a 1967 performance and would not perform live again for over 25 years.
- If you selected (D), then you have something in common with Bridget Fonda, who says that she would go on stage and then later not be able to remember anything she had done.
Question 2:
- If you selected (A), then you and Stevie Nicks have something in common. He believes that a little bit of fear is what makes a great performance.
- If you selected (B), then you might be sharing a waste basket with Michael Douglas, who, as he was beginning his acting career, would throw up off stage before every performance.
- If you selected (C), then Hilary Duff could sympathize with you, since she is also more nervous in front of small crowds than large ones.
- If you selected (D), then you and Michael Jackson have something in common. In the World Music Awards in 2006, Michael wouldn’t have even had the nerve to sing if it hadn’t been for Beyonce giving him encouragement backstage before the show.
Whichever performer you are similar to, just remember that you are not alone in your stage fright. All of the people mentioned in this article have had stage fright and still had successful careers.
